APPROPRIATION FOR 1948/1949 ORDINANCE

The Select Gommittee appointed to consider the Appropriation for 1948/1949 Ordinance, 1948, together with the Draft Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the year ending March 31st, 1949, has the honour to submit its report.
Details of revenue and expenditure for all departments were examined. Only specific recommendations and the more important comments are recorded in the report.
REVENUE
In order to off-set expenditure on two projects tentatively included under Public Works Extraordinary for which the secretary of State for the Colonies has now authorized grants from the Colonial Development and Welfare Fund, the Committee recommends an increase in the estimate of revenue from $150,847,950 to $151,407,950.
HEAD 1 HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR
The Committee noted that His Excellency was prepared to abolish the post of Motor Cleaner and they also noted an alteration in the grading of one post of motor driver resulting from the salaries revision.
The effect of these amendments is to reduce the expenditure under this Head from $219,795 to $218,979.
HEAD 4 CIVIL AVIATION DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted the inclusion of two Airport Supervisors and two temporary clerks, whose appointments had been still under discussion when the Estimates were printed.
The effect of these amendments is to increase the expenditure under this Head from $745,969 to $762,169.
HEAD 5C
FISHERIES DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted a mis-print in the provision for personal emoluments, increasing the expenditure under this Head from $129,369 to $139,369.

FORESTRY DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted an increase in expenditure under this Head from $511,808 to $513,248, consequent upon the regrading of a temporary typist as a Confidential Assistant.

GARDENS DEPARTMENT
The Committee noted a minor adjustment in the provision for personal emoluments resulting from the salary revision, thus increasing the expenditure under this Head from 8493,368 to $493,576.
